After the completion of my ‘An Evolution’ project I took to a canvas with a blank mind and no pre conceived idea of what to paint or indeed what direction my new collection was going to take. Without these boundaries in place I felt I would not be constrained by the need to produce any style in particular, therefore allowing me to create what I hoped would be an organic and free flowing image, raised purely from my own inner emotions.
The piece ‘Energy on Turquoise’ was the first completed painting I produced from this starting point. Cracks and bubbles of gold, orange, white and black begin to strain forward out of the seeming serenity offered by the green and blue backdrop before fully enveloping it in a force of gold and black threads. The piece has become an image of pure emotion and energy conjured up from deep within myself.
Following the same process I began to form the collection, each piece born from a different feeling and conjuring up different emotions when looked upon. Using similar techniques to those I used in my previous collection, the act of dripping and spraying paints into one another letting them form with a spontaneous and natural manner, allows the image to further progress the feeling of an organic, internal struggle of emotions similar to that which brew inside every person.
Looking upon the collection, I have noticed similarities between the images and those of my previous collection. Whether these have formed on a subconscious level, as a natural progression established in the act of moving to a new collection, or whether one can go back to the thought that every living thing, and thus every feeling and emotion we have inside us, were forged out in the depths of space, i will leave it for the viewer to decide.
The paintings are named simply using the title of the collection followed by the base colour in order that the viewers reaction to the piece is gained from within themselves, and not limited by another persons feelings and emotions.
They are produced on stretched canvas using acrylic and spray paint.
